Dog owner in court

The Hakaru dog attack last March has had a sequel in the Whangarei District Court. Kaipara District Council says two people were charged under the Dog Control Act 1996 in relation to the attack, which injured three members of the public. The registered owner plead guilty to all charges, and the court ordered the destruction of the four dogs involved. The dogs had been held in council custody pending the outcome of the prosecution. The other person charged has pleaded not guilty and will shortly be proceeding to a judge alone trial. The update comes as council deals with the fatal dog attack in Kaihu last week.
