Downunderdogs
“Some friends up North” persuaded Wellington-based band Downunderdogs to perform at the Auckland Bluegrass Club and Whangateau later this month.
The group comprises Peter Dyer and Jack MacKenzie on guitar, and Peter’s wife Cathy Dyer on double bass.
Peter describes their act as a combination of first-class flatpicking, stellar songwriting, heavenly harmonies and lots of laughs.
“We do some bluegrass, play a bit of western swing and play country music and we have a fair scattering of original songs, which might fit into one or more of those categories,” Peter says.
“Basically, if we like it and think we can play it, we will give it a try.”
All the band members are originally from the United States and their music might broadly be described as “Americana”.
Downunderdogs have featured at the Wellington Folk Festival, Wellington Bluegrass Society and the Kiwigrass Festival.
They will play at the Whangateau Hall on Monday, November 16, at 7pm. Tickets cost $10 and are available at whangateau.co.nz
