Sports teams and community groups have been given a handy transport boost, thanks to a new minibus that can be borrowed for free from Warkworth Toyota.

The 12-seater bus is available for charity and non-for-profit groups such as schools, sport teams, church groups, service clubs and community organisations.

Warkworth Toyota’s customer service and marketing manager Cherryll Thompson, said the minibus had been provided to fill a gap in funding for community groups.

“We were receiving a lot of requests for sponsorship from sports teams and community groups asking for help with costs for transportation to get to events,” she explained.

“We looked at how we could assist as many as possible and provide mobility to everyone that needed it in a simple way.”

She said the answer was providing transport that could be accessed by those who needed it, when they needed it, at minimal or no cost to them.

“We know a lot of families are making tough decisions when it comes to everyday living cost increases and sometimes this affects extra-curricular activities that their children are involved in, by not being able to pay for the transport to get where they need to be, so we decided to help in the best way we could.”

The result was two minibuses – one based in Albany and one in Warkworth – that can be used right across the two Toyota dealerships’ territory, which stretches from North Auckland to Maungatūroto.

Any team or group wishing to use a minibus needs to email Thompson and each request will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis, subject to intended use and availability.

After use, the vehicle needs to be returned clean, tidy and with all fuel used replaced in full. Warkworth Toyota also has a barbecue that can be borrowed by groups and teams.
