Visitors to Taharoa Domain at Kai Iwi Lakes can look forward to enjoying upgraded facilities at the popular holiday spot.
Earlier this month Kaipara District Council announced that a substantial wastewater infrastructure upgrade is complete, increasing capacity for the campground and Pine Beach day-use area. The new treatment system includes underground tanks, upgraded electrical systems, a new control shed and an expanded dispersal field that returns treated water to a fenced area of native scrub. Landscaping around the facility has also been completed.
Mayor Jonathan Larsen says the project supports the council’s long-term aim of providing reliable infrastructure while protecting the environment.
“These upgrades ensure Taharoa Domain has the reliable services and modern facilities needed to support visitors now and into the future, while protecting the unique environment that makes this place so special,” he says.
The main campground toilet and shower block will also undergo a two-month refurbishment. Starting this month, work will include new toilet and shower cubicles, water-saving taps and showerheads, hand dryers, LED lighting, new wall linings and durable flooring. A new rainwater tank will be installed at both Taharoa Domain and Lake Waikare.
Work is expected to be completed before the summer holiday season begins.
