Recently the Gregarious Grannies celebrated their 15th birthday. The group was started in 2006 by the late Jill Jeffs, who was looking for social outlets after she retired.
Organiser Lyn Blucher says the original morning tea get-togethers soon turned into lunches due to lively conversation.
“Now we go for lunch, so we don’t feel guilty staying on and having a couple of wines,” she says. “We can be noisy – with lots of laughter.”
At one time there were around 50 members and a range of social outings. Sometimes the gregarious grandads were invited too! Lyn says now it is a smaller group and good friendships have been made.
