The Winter Energy Payment will start on May 1 and finish on October 1.

Single people with no dependent children will get an extra $20.46 a week, while couples and people with dependent children will receive $31.82 a week.

The extra payment is to help with the cost of heating a home over the winter months.

The payment will be automatic for anyone receiving NZ Super and/or a veteran pension, as well as several other beneficiary categories.
