Help fund a brighter future

There was a good turnout for the Springboard fundraising dinner last year.

Springboard’s annual fundraising dinner will be held in the barn, which is transformed into a dining room for the evening, next to Sheepworld on Saturday, November 8, from 5pm.

The event caps off the organisation’s Fund a Brighter Future campaign, which raises money to support young people in the Rodney area.

“Last year we raised about $220,000 overall, so it was pretty cool,” Springboard’s Sarah Wilson said.

“This year we are aiming for a similar figure. We’d love that again.”

Donations to the campaign are matched dollar-for-dollar by Kennards Hire Foundation and Northwood Developments Limited, up to $100,000.

Wilson said Fund a Brighter Future had already started online and the dinner would be the final push.

Like last year, the evening will feature stories from the young people Springboard supports.

“We want people to hear from the kids because that’s actually what this place is about.”

Community support has always been central to the event.

“Last year we had a young person donate $1, which meant as much to us as the people donating $50 and $100 because that was all that young kid had to give. It wasn’t even a kid who’s been associated with Springboard before.

“That $1 then becomes $2. And imagine if everybody donated $1. Every donation really means the world to us.”
