Crash kills one
One person died after a single-vehicle crash in Kaipara on July 25. Emergency services were called to Ararua Road, Matakohe, just before 2:30pm, where the sole occupant was located deceased, police said. The road was closed while emergency services were in attendance. The death has been referred to the coroner.
Lucky Lotto win
Kaipara residents are being urged to check their Lotto tickets after one lucky person won Lotto First Division on July 25. The winning ticket was sold at Tony’s Stationery & Lotto in Maungatūroto. The winner is one of seven Lotto First Division winners, each taking home $111,111. This is the third First Division winning ticket sold by Tony’s Stationery & Lotto since 2016.
Small Kaipara quake
A magnitude 2.5 earthquake occurred in Kaipara on July 25. The quake, at a depth of 5km, struck at 10.49am. The epicentre was just north of the Kaipara Harbour. According to a geology report commissioned by Kaipara District Council in 2019, Kaipara is one of New Zealand’s least seismically active regions.
