The Manly Volunteer Fire Brigade celebrated its members at the annual Honours Night, held at Red Beach Surf Club on Saturday, October 4.
The well-attended event recognises the brigade’s dedicated volunteers, along with their friends and whānau, for their continued service and countless hours of work over the past year.
Chief Fire Officer Craig MacDonald welcomed members and guests before presenting the United Fire Brigades’ Association (UFBA) honours:
UFBA Awards: Three-Year Certificate – Steven Henshaw and Lulu Smith. Five-Year Medal – Nathan Glen. Two-Year Service Bar (9 Years’ Service) – Janette Baird. Two-Year Service Bar (19 Years’ Service) – Craig MacDonald. Two-Year Service Bar (21 Years’ Service) – Clint Robinson. Two-Year Gold Service Bar (29 Years’ Service) and Long Service and Good Conduct 28-Year Clasp – Ian Thomson.
Senior Firefighter Rudi Hertzke also received the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal for 14 years of service, presented by MP Mark Mitchell.
Brigade Trophies 2025: W & A Rickaby Trophy – Most Musters by a Member: Chris Morris. Chief Fire Officer’s Trophy – Most Musters by an Officer: Janette Baird. Delamore Cup – Sportsperson or Team of the Year: Nick Pelikani. Nyman Cup – Recruit of the Year: Joanna Lea. Ernie and Chris Moffat Proficiency Cup – Most Improved Member: Nathan Glen. Tony Clark DCFO Award – Outstanding Non-Operational Support (“Unsung Hero”): Darryl Johnston. J.E. Carn-Bennett Memorial Trophy – Firefighter of the Year: Ben Burnett.
The brigade thanked the Red Beach Surf Club for hosting the evening and Krave Catering for providing the meal, saying it was a night full of pride, laughter, and connection, and a well-deserved celebration of the incredible people in the brigade and the vital work they do for the community.
