Auckland Council’s Governing Body has adopted the consultation document for Māori seats, with public feedback open from August 21 until September 24.
This will be an opportunity for Aucklanders to say whether or not they support the introduction of Māori seats onto the Governing Body of council.
Council’s manager of governance services, Rose Leonard, says this is a significant decision for council and feedback is sought from mana whenua iwi, Māori living in Tāmaki Makaurau and the wider community.
“A decision on Māori seats on the Governing Body is about how Māori are represented in Tāmaki Makaurau, and how Aucklanders are represented by the Governing Body,” he says.
