The Mahurangi Artists Network has a new permanent home in Matakana to display members’ artwork, which opens this Friday, November 28.

The gallery at 1 The Workshops, off Matakana Valley Road, will also offer a custom mounting and framing service run by Bill Hart, who owns K.S. Thompson Picture Framers in Epsom as well as the new gallery space.

Around 80 creatives working from Puhoi to Wellsford belong to the Mahurangi Artists Network, which is best known for its annual Open Studio Trail that runs over a week in summer.

Artist Alysn Midgelow-Marsden said the new gallery was a pilot project that would give locals and visitors the chance to enjoy and buy art of the highest quality direct from the artists who created it, from ceramics and sculpture to painting, jewellery, woodwork and textiles.

She added that the launch had been boosted by start-up funding from Creative Rodney, a Rodney Local Board initiative to foster art.

The Mahurangi Artists Network Gallery is at 1/64 Matakana Valley Road and will be open every Thursday to Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.
