Three students from Ōrewa College have been selected to present their original garments in Walk the Line, New Zealand Fashion Week’s national youth designer showcase, taking place on August 30 at Shed 10, Auckland.

Year 12 student Asmi Goyal will unveil a two-piece outfit she designed and sewed herself, inspired by the fabric’s texture and flow. “Asmi’s work reflects strong creative vision and technical skill beyond her years,” College Fashion and Textile teacher Gail Smith says. “This is a fantastic opportunity for her to share that talent on a national platform.”

Joining her on the runway is Aimee Ulugia (Year 13), who will model her self-designed crochet ball dress. “I am excited and honoured to be accepted into this competition,” Aimee says, “and to model my garment at New Zealand Fashion Week.”

At just 13 years old, Year 8 student Zoe Corke is the youngest of the trio and will present her garment “All Tied Up,” made from repurposed materials. “Zoe is passionate about sustainable fashion,” her mother Nicole Corke says. “She upcycles old items into new designs and recently gave a speech about the environmental impact of fast fashion.”

Walk the Line is run in partnership with Raise Up and has been launching young designers into the fashion industry since 2011.
