Ōrewa Garden Club held its 46th annual Spring Show last month, with members excelling themselves in a colourful display of flowers, foliage, pot plants, miniatures and floral baskets, the organisers say.
Although heavy rain fell the night before, members managed to save some outstanding blooms, which made for a vibrant show of colour, shapes and forms.
The club welcomed Warkworth Garden Club members Annette Sharp and Jeni Hart as this year’s judges. Organisers said the pair did an excellent job, with the high standard of entries making their task far from easy.
However, one club member, Valerie Julius, came out on top, receiving both the Best Exhibit Trophy and the Ellen Boyce Memorial Cup for overall winner, finishing just four points ahead of runner-up Shirley Wilson.
Organisers said it was a great day for the club, helped along by the return of sunshine in time for the event.
