A Makarau resident made a plea for traffic calming measures outside Ahuroa School at Rodney Local Board’s monthly meeting on June 21.
Steven Law said a hidden entrance, hedges and deep drains made the rural school entrance difficult to see and dangerous for children and parents, and suggested the board divert any excess funds from other projects to pay for improvements.
Board member Michelle Carmichael pointed out that Auckland Transport (AT) would be implementing speed reductions outside all rural schools by July next year.
AT said in April that “further investigation was needed to see if painting the road surface was feasible as part of its school investigation programme” (MM, Apr 14).
