Rodney Local Board – Briefs

Appointments

Board member Paul Manton has been elected Rodney’s representative on the Rural Advisory Panel.

The panel advises Auckland Council on policies and plans specific to the rural sector and generally meets every three months.

Additionally, Lisa Whyte and Ivan Wagstaff were appointed to the Auckland Council Play Leadership Group, a collaborative, non-decision-making forum established in late 2023, aimed at fostering, advocating for and developing play opportunities across Tāmaki Makaurau.

Kauri walkway concern

The Kauri and Native Bushmans Association wants Auckland Council to finish its upgrade of a 1.8km walkway in Parry Kauri Park.

Group representative Ray Jensen told the Rodney Local Board that council decided to rebuild the walkway to better protect the trees from kauri dieback.

However, the three stage project has only ever been completed to stage two. He said a padlock on a gate, designed to keep people off the unfinished walkway, had been broken on several concerns.

Jensen said this meant people were walking into areas where they might be carrying dieback on their shoes.

“There was also evidence of people climbing over the gates. We’d like this final section brought up to dieback regulation standard as soon as possible,” Jensen said.
