Rotarians invited to celebrate 60

The Warkworth Rotary Club will mark 60 years of service with a reunion dinner in November and is inviting former members to join the celebration.

The Charter from Rotary International was presented to the club on December 6, 1962, at a dinner in the Warkworth Town Hall. Over the past six decades, the club has served the town in many ways by providing assistance to groups and individuals. For instance, the Warkworth Wellsford Hospice and the Jane Gifford restoration were supported for many years by practical and financial means.

The club also published a community directory for many years and still organises the annual Carols by Candlelight.

“Encouraging youth has always been a high priority and many local students benefited from International Youth Exchange and other developmental opportunities,” past president Brian Tuck says.

Records show that more than 300 people have, at one time or another, been members of club and contributed to its successes.

“Some have now passed on, some have moved away, but many still live locally.”

The reunion dinner will be held on November 5 and the club is eager to contact as many past members as possible so that they and their partners can receive an invitation. Tuck says it will be a great night for greeting old friends and reminiscing about past achievements.
