Around 100 people attended the 65th anniversary celebration of the Women’s Section of the Warkworth & Districts RSA earlier this month.
The celebration brought together members of RSA groups from across the North Island, including Birkenhead, Franklin, East Coast Bays, Hibiscus Coast, Dargaville, Whangārei, Waipū, Swanson, New Lynn, Waiheke and Bulls, as well as Warkworth.
The ceremony was also attended by Noelene Price-Quedley and Beverley Forrester the daughters of founding member, Ona Price.
“My mother would have been very proud that the Women’s Section is still going and remains strong,” Noelene said.
“Thanks to her, we became very involved in our communities. The Women’s Section has always taken part in Anzac Day, with the crosses and poppies at the RSA,” Beverley added.
Four members from the different delegations – Sherryl Barrett, Ivy MacFarlane, Joss Myers and Julie Robertson – received long-service awards for more than 15 years of service to the group.
The Women’s Section of the Warkworth & Districts RSA president, Joss Myers, said the gatherings were not only about supporting each other, but also about fellowship, sharing a common interest and ideas, and building camaraderie.
“I’m in my second year as president, after being on the committee for two years and being a member of the Women’s Section for just over 20 years,” Myers said. “I would like to see the Women’s Section remain strong.
Members of the section run the poppy stalls during Anzac Day and also help with catering and, in general, work behind the scenes.”
The celebration also included the Women’s Section song, raffles, spot prizes and a birthday cake.
