For the fifth consecutive year, the Art in August exhibition will be held in the Southgate Room, above the Warkworth Hotel, opening at the end of this month.
The exhibition is a collaboration between Mahurangi College’s art department and invited professional artists including several from the South Island.
It will showcase a wide range of artistic talent, with 10 per cent of all sale proceeds going to support the art department.
The exhibition starts on Thursday, July 31 with a special Opening Night event, hosted in partnership with the One Mahurangi Business Association. The evening will feature a presentation by ANZ chief economist Sharon Zollner, who will also take part in a Q&A session. Doors open at 5.30pm for viewing and refreshments, and while association members have been directly invited, the general public is also welcome to attend.
There will be a strong educational focus the next day, Friday, August 1. At 9.30am, 14 senior students from Warkworth Primary School will attend the exhibition, guided by art department head Nyree Norrington. She will host a “show and tell” session and share opportunities for pursuing art at the college.
Later that morning, residents from three Auckland-based retirement villages are expected to visit. In the afternoon, from 3.40pm, the college will hold its own special event, which the public is welcome to attend.
On Saturday, August 2 from 5pm, local residents from Warkworth Oaks and their families will enjoy a wine and cheese evening amid the artwork.
The exhibition is open to the general public throughout the weekend: Friday: 9am-7pm, Saturday: 9am-5pm, Sunday: 10am-2pm.
