Students climbing the wall at Whangaparaoa

Whangaparāoa School has added a bouldering wall to its playground.

The 8m long x 2m high wall has around 50 hand-holds and is designed for all ages – more advanced climbers simply use less of the holds.

Principal Kevin Cronin says the challenge of getting from one end to the other is proving very popular.

The idea came about after a group of Year 6 students attended grit camp and loved the challenge of climbing on a bouldering wall.

The first stage was constructed in the recent holidays with the support of Kevin Knowles Homes and school caretaker Alex Hanna. The next stage will see the addition of extra walls, bars and beams.
