Rodney College students Sienna Purcell and Finn Andrews (pictured) have built a custom gear cabinet for the Mangawhai Heads Surf Club Search and Rescue (SAR).
The cabinet was built at school to improve the club’s facilities, which were severely impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle three years ago. Both Sienna and Finn are lifesavers.
The new cabinet will improve response times with organised storage for radios and medical kits, and it has also been built to last in the tough, salty beach environment.
“As patrolling members, we knew exactly what the team needed,” Sienna and Finn said. “It feels good to use the skills we learn at school to help keep our community safe.”
