Construction of a clubhouse is under way at The Tides Mangawhai, where residents have begun moving into the town’s first retirement village.
The building’s footprint is visible at the village, and completion is expected in around 13 months time. Plans include a swimming pool, spa, gym, café and bar, hair salon, wellness centre, activities room and billiards table.
The first stage of construction of the village itself is now complete, with 24 villas, a sales villa and a temporary clubhouse. The next stage will include 13 villas, with a choice of two-bedroom, two-bedroom-plus-study and three-bedroom layouts.
When complete, the village will have 160 independent living units and 20 care suites.
The Mangawhai development is part of a wider Metlifecare building programme. In May, the company said it was investing a combined $400 million in new villages around the country, with demand for retirement living expected to grow as the population ages.
