From pre-war vehicles to classic Holdens and Jaguars, the Wellsford-Warkworth Vintage Car Club is home to some of the region’s finest classic vehicles.
With around 100 members, it has become one of the area’s most popular clubs for enthusiasts who share a passion for motoring history.
Founded in Wellsford in 1979, the club later expanded to include Warkworth.
Since 2009, members have met at their own clubhouse on Satellite Station Road, where regular club nights bring people together to enjoy a shared meal and talk about their favourite vehicles.
The club is part of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand, which has more than 8000 members nationwide and welcomes any vehicle more than 30 years old.
Club secretary Jim Flewitt said one of the biggest attractions is the variety of vehicles and the strong sense of camaraderie among members.
“In my eight years as a member, I’ve found you’re always learning about different makes and models, “Jim said.
“There’s always something new to discover. At this year’s A&P Show, we had at least one vehicle representing every decade from the 1900s through to the 1980s.”
Although classic car clubs are often associated with older enthusiasts, Jim said attracting younger members remained a priority.
“We already have a few younger members, and we’re always keen to encourage more people to get involved,” he said. “We’ve taken our vehicles into local schools, and even with the rise of electric cars, people are still fascinated by the technology and engineering of classic vehicles. You don’t even need to own a qualifying vehicle to join the club.”
The club holds two meetings each month, as well as a weekly café run.
