Wellsford School will add a new Twilight Fiesta to its traditional Ag Day celebration on Friday, October 16.
Principal Melanie Bell said the evening party would give whānau a chance to relax and celebrate together, with live music, food, inflatables, games, raffles and an auction of scarecrows made by students.
“We’re really excited to see how this new idea goes, and we’ll have our own Wellsford School band performing during the event,” Bell said.
The day will also feature the traditional animal judging, where students will show and lead their calves, lambs and goats, which will be judged on care, rearing and handling.
There will be competitions for photography, edible gardens and colouring.
The daytime activities will start at 11am, with the Twilight Fiesta running from 5pm to 8pm.
“Wellsford is a rural community with strong roots in farming, and Ag Day is a celebration of that heritage. It gives our tamariki the chance to take responsibility for caring for an animal or growing something over time, and to take real pride in what they’ve achieved.”
