AT proposes highway speed drop

Auckland Transport’s (AT) next crop of roads identified for lower speeds includes sections of Hibiscus Coast Highway, East Coast Road and Dairy Flat Highway.

They are among 1646 Auckland roads where AT is proposing to drop speeds. The affected sections of Hibiscus Coast Highway include the section through Silverdale that is currently 70kph – this would drop to 60kph.

Public consultation is underway, and anyone can have their say until April 3 at https://at.govt.nz/about-us/have-your-say/proposed-speed-limit-changes-phase-three/

If approved, these changes will come into force in November/December  – AT says this is dependent on public feedback, AT Board approval and implementation considerations.

Slow around Stanmore Meanwhile speeds around Stanmore Bay School are among those already consulted on and set to go to the AT board for final approval on March 31, with implementation in June.

They include dropping the speed to 30kph along the full length of Waiora Road, Greta Place, Elliston Crescent and Charlotte Street as well as Gledstane Road (between Elliston Crescent and D’Oyly Drive).
