Election precautions for Covid

The 2020 General Election has been postponed to October 17 – four weeks later than was scheduled.

This follows the recent Covid-19 outbreak in South Auckland, which has not yet been linked to the border.

In the light of Covid-19, a range of measures will be in place to help keep voters safe at the election, including using hand sanitiser on the way in and out of voting places, managing queues and allowing more room for physical distancing inside voting places.

The Electoral Commission will also be increasing the size and number of voting places.

The Commission encourages voters to take their own pen to mark voting papers, but there’ll be pens available if you forget.
