Harbour Hospice is $28,850 better off following the success of the Greek Extravaganza held in Ōrewa on October 29.
Organiser Theo Simeonidis said the sell-out evening celebrating everything Greek was another great success.
It featured traditional cuisine and wines from the sunny island of Crete and celebrated the special relationship existing between New Zealand and Crete, which was forged during World War II.
Live entertainment included floorshows performed by dancers in traditional Cretan costumes and live music by Sounds of Greece & Friends.
“Hibiscus and Bays Local Board chair Gary Brown did a great job of auctioning of some high-value items, including a signed All Blacks jersey,” Simeonidis said.
“The evening culminated in a sing-along of the entire gathering of the ABBA song I Have a Dream, an absolutely beautiful moment to seal a perfect evening.
“Already, plans are well advanced for Greek Extravaganza 2023 and we are looking forward to raising in excess of $30,000 next year.”
The event was cancelled last year due to Covid, but in the five years since it was launched under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Ōrewa-Millwater, just over $110,000 has been raised for hospice.
Simeonidis thanked local businesses for their valued sponsorship.
