A rare visit to Ōrewa by Blackcap Martin Guptill was appreciated by a small handful of cricket fans who braved rain and wind to meet their cricketing hero.
Suburbs New Lynn’s premier men’s team, which includes Guptill, was scheduled to play the Hibiscus Coast’s premier men’s team in a one-day game at Victor Eaves reserve in Ōrewa on Saturday, February 12.
Hibiscus was excited to play this top of the table team, including its Blackcap opening batsman but sadly it was not to be.
Persistent rain eventually cancelled the game. As the teams waited for that final decision to be made by umpires, Guptill was more than happy to pose with members of the Hibiscus team and fans who turned up to meet him.
