Mark Mitchell confirmed as National candidate for 2026

Mark Mitchell will run for his sixth term as an MP.

Incumbent Whangaparāoa MP Mark Mitchell has confirmed he will stand again in this year’s General Election.

Labour’s 2023 candidate, Estefania Muller Pallarès, had earlier confirmed she will also contest the seat. (Hibiscus Matters, January 27).

New Zealand First and the Green Party have both confirmed they intend to stand candidates, but are yet to announce names.

At the last election in 2023, Mitchell secured a decisive win in the electorate, receiving 30,742 votes. Muller Pallarès followed on 7366 votes, giving Mitchell a majority of more than 23,000.

The result reinforced Whangaparāoa as a strong National seat, with National also leading the party vote locally.

Hibiscus Matters will update candidate details as they are confirmed.
