New riding hub opens in Red Beach

A new multi-use pump track designed for riders and skaters of all ages and abilities has officially opened in Red Beach, giving the Hibiscus Coast another purpose-built facility for bikes, scooters, skateboards and rollerblades.

After local residents put forward the idea for a pump track last year, the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board confirmed that $540,000 had already been set aside to fund the project.

Built by TrailPro, the park wa officially opened with an event earlier this week. Designed for all ages and abilities, the facility includes a separate kids’ track so everyone can build skills and confidence at their own pace. From first-timers to experienced riders, there’s something here for everyone.

The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board said the facility had been designed as a shared community space and urged users to follow the rules to keep it safe for everyone.

“This facility has been built for everyone to enjoy – a place to ride and have fun together. As a reminder, to keep the space safe and enjoyable for all, it is for bikes, scooters, skateboards, and rollerblades only, and there are no tricycles, training wheels, go-karts, or motorised vehicles allowed on the track.”

TrailPro said one of the standout features is the jump line — “and as usual, the crew nailed it and constructed another awesome jump line kids can progress on.”

TrailPro said the project also needed to cater for skateboarders, making it a truly multi-use facility.

“It’s awesome to see riders, skaters, scooters and all sorts of wheeled enthusiasts enjoying the same space and sharing the stoke.

“A huge win for the local community and another fantastic addition to Auckland’s growing network of riding facilities.”

The opening followed a reminder from TrailPro to people using the track before it officially opened and construction completed.

“Riding it early damages the freshly compacted surface and the area is also an active work site, which creates safety risks for both riders and builders.”

Another pump track is planned at the youth park in Long Bay with construction starting later this year.
