Ōrewa’s Big Dig returns

The Annual Big Dig returns to Ōrewa Beach on Saturday, January 17, celebrating its 43rd year with a full day of family fun. Organised by the Ōrewa Lions Club, all proceeds from the event go to the Hibiscus Coast Youth Hub, helping fund programmes and opportunities for local young people.

Families can enjoy carnival rides, market stalls, beach games, delicious food, and the famous Lions Quick Fire raffles, along with $2 Community Raffle tickets. The 2026 calendar will also be available for sale.

Gates open at 9.30am, with raffles starting at 10am. Children can compete in the Sandcastle Competition from 10am to 11.15am, while under-5s join the Gnome Hunt at 11am and older children begin digging for prizes at 11.30am. Prize draws for all competitions are at 12.15pm, with winners needing to be onsite, and the major Community Raffle prize will be drawn at 1pm.

Entry tickets are $5 for children five and under and $10 for those over five. The Ōrewa Lions Club encourages everyone to bring a picnic rug, sun umbrella, and the whole family for a fun-filled day on the beach.
