Red Beach lifeguard Oscar Pedersen stamped his authority in several events at the AON NZ Pool Rescue Championships held October 2-4 in Auckland.

Pedersen, 17, younger brother of top pool swimmer Zoe Pederson, delivered powerful swim performances in the U19 Men’s division at the National Aquatic Centre to win national titles in the 200m Super Lifesaver event and the 200m Obstacle Swim.

He also added a Silver from the 100m Rescue Medley Manikin event, and established personal best times in all six individual events he contested. He was a key part of the team events, collecting two Silver and one Bronze. The event drew 554 athletes –Seniors, Juniors, and Masters – from 35 surf lifesaving clubs.

Red Beach placed second overall and second in Masters.

Strong performances from Ōrewa Surf Lifesaving Club’s Juniors through to Masters took the club to fifth place overall, with the club’s Masters placing third overall.
