Red Beach candidate fifth in mayoral race

Gary Brown of Red Beach, who was last term’s chair of the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board, is polling fifth in the Mayoral race with 6782 votes.

He is just 310 votes behind fourth place getter Robert Hong Hu,

This election was Brown first attempt at getting the top job. He told Hibiscus Matters he ‘leapfrogged’ from the local board to try for the mayoralty because of his loyalty to Councillors Wayne Walker and John Watson – he got onto the local board on their ticket in 2019.

“It’s my first time, and with a low budget against the other mayoral candidates, I’m quite pleased with how it’s gone,” he said.

This is based on the progress results, which include votes returned up until Friday, October 7. Special votes and votes hand delivered by 12 noon today are not included.
