Hibiscus Coast and Bays Sea Cadets are looking for young people aged 13 to 14, or those in Year 9, to join their 2026 intake.
A recruiting open night will be held on Wednesday, December 10, at 7pm at the North Shore Aero Club in Dairy Flat.
The Cadets programme offers a mix of adventure, leadership and maritime training. Members learn to sail, kayak and operate powerboats, as well as take part in marksmanship, bushcraft, tramping and parade drill. Leaders say the activities help build confidence, resilience and teamwork, and often lead to strong, long-term friendships.
Cadets also attend training courses at New Zealand Defence Force camps and bases, giving them a taste of military-style learning in a structured and supportive setting.
