Stars align for Youth in Transition fundraiser

Tournament participants ready to tee off.

Some famous sportspeople, including Olympians, lined up to play golf and raise funds in Youth in Transition’s Golf Fore Life event last month.

The fundraising tournament was held on a picture perfect day on February 24 at Gulf Harbour Country Club.

A total of 100 golfers participated in the tournament. Local business representatives and community members rubbed shoulders with Olympic rowing gold medallists Tom Mackintosh, Matt Macdonald and Phil Wilson as well as former All Blacks Troy Flavell, Olo Brown, Joe and Jeremy Stanley and Terry Wright, and former All Blacks coach John Hart.

Everyone played a full 18 holes and there were also on-course competitions and activities, a barbecue and post-game buffet.

This was followed by an auction which included signed sports memorabilia, exclusive golfing packages with sports stars, a fishing charter and a stay at Wairakei Golf Course and Sanctuary.

Sian Stimson, who is on the organising committee, said it was a fantastic day – and not only because the weather was ideal.

“We were thrilled with the turnout, especially as we’d had to postpone from the original October date,” Sian says. “It was a great opportunity to promote Youth In Transition’s life changing work for young people in our community. In addition, we were able to raise significant funds which will go directly to paying for the counselling hours and support we offer young people on our programme.”

The exact amount raised is still being calculated.

Youth in Transition is very grateful for the tremendous support of players, sponsors, and local businesses.
