The first visible signs of work on the Penlink route begin next week, as the NZ Transport Agency, Waka Kotahi, investigates underground services.
Waka Kotahi says the work will begin on Monday, October 18 and should be complete by Tuesday, October 26.
Most of it will take place overnight, with the exception of work at Cedar Terrace, Beverley Road and Wiriana Place (all roads off Whangaparaoa Rd, in the vicinity of New World supermarket), which will be from 7.30am-5pm.
Traffic management will consist of stop/go signs to avoid full lane closure. Waka Kotahi says this will be for short periods only.
Vipond Road is an alternative route around the affected area.
The work involves contractors cutting open the pavement and using pressurised water to break up the soil in order to sight underground services. The investigations are also to help identify the suitability of certain locations for construction, and the potential impacts of construction.
Similar work will also take place in Stillwater, around Duck Creek Road area – the timing of the Stillwater work is still to be confirmed.
