Surf lifesaving sign off

Ōreawa Surf Lifesaving finally has the sign off it needs from Auckland Council to proceed with building its new clubrooms and community facility on Ōrewa Beach.

At the end of last month the organisation received approval for its amended Resource Consent – a significant milestone for the project.

The club first got consent in 2016, but this had to be amended after the requirement for the building to be moved further inland due to predicted sea level rise (HM October 25).

Ōrewa Surf chair Faron Turner says the club would like to thank Council staff as well as Hutchinson Engineers, Paua Planning and Product X, who he says went out of their way to ensure the consent was granted as quickly as possible.

He says the club expects that an amended lease will be approved by the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board soon, which then allows the club to launch a major funding campaign in the New Year.
