Troublesome roadworks ongoing

Work on a watermain alongside busy Hibiscus Coast Highway, near the BP petrol station, has reduced speeds and lane width on the highway, causing significant tailbacks southbound and driving commuters mad.

The work is being undertaken by Watercare contractors. It began on July 10 and was slightly held up by Covid-19, which project manager Casper Kruger says impacted crucial resources.

The work involves connecting a new watermain to the existing one. Watercare says the new pipe is substantially larger and will cater for the region’s growth. It will also service the Milldale development.

The main connection work is now complete and the final stage is in progress.

“As the work is being carried out close to the road, we are required by Auckland Transport to use separators and reduce the speed limit along part of Hibiscus Coast Highway from 70kph to 50kph while this work is carried out,” the spokesperson says.

Watercare apologises for any inconvenience caused to commuters and expects to have the work completed by September 11.
