Year 9 Wentworth College student William Gu has had his artwork Guilt La Sin selected for exhibition in the Academy Prize for Visual Art, one of New Zealand’s most prestigious competitions for visual artists.
The annual event draws submissions from across the country, making William’s inclusion a significant recognition of his skill and creativity. His work was created with a fine liner pen on paper. In his artist statement, William describes it as: “Guilt displayed by the windshear of thousands of pen strokes. A pain that agonizes far beneath our ethereal eyes. Lingering, cursed monsters, sins, and temptation at every corner driving to death. This piece depicts the suffering of men via their brutal hard work, only to receive a hollow death.”
William says he has had a passion for art since childhood and continues to develop his interest in painting and drawing.
More than 350 works were on display at the exhibition, including painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media.
