A self-proclaimed “novice” orchid grower, Michelle MacKenzie of Snells Beach, recently won a NZ Orchid Society award after her large Dendrobium delicatum ‘Flora’.
Her orchid, which she has had for 10 years, was on display as part of the Hibiscus Coast Orchid Society’s annual show in Orewa earlier this month.
Michelle says she joined the club just three months ago, because she wanted to improve her orchid-growing skills.
The show on October 9 and 10 was her first and taking out the prize was a huge surprise. “Joining the club has brought me out of myself to do something that is beautiful and fun with a great group of people,” Michelle says.
