Board outlines spending plans for the next year

Two compliance officers, arts programmes, environmental projects and community events organisers are among the key initiatives being funded in the $35.5 million Rodney Local Board agreement adopted on Wednesday, June 11.

Board chair Brent Bailey said this year’s plan would see increased investment in local services, thanks to Auckland Council’s new fairer funding model

“Community programmes, the creative arts and local environmental projects are all winners in Rodney Local Board’s plans for the coming financial year,” he said.

“We have heard how important it is to care for the environment and to support the many volunteers involved in planting, pest control, park clean-ups, stream restoration and a multitude of other projects.

“We know too that while most people do the right thing, there are some who do not and that supporting compliance officers can help protect our natural spaces and wildlife.”

Other key initiatives will include upgrading multi-use hard courts at Wellsford Centennial Park; increasing maintenance of halls, car parks, tracks and public toilets; supporting Forest Bridge Trust; delivering play opportunities from the new council play plan; and supporting five local organisers to deliver programmes and events in communities across Rodney.

Bailey added that the local board would continue to advocate for issues beyond its control, such as the improvement of unsealed roads and stopping out-of-sequence development where key infrastructure was not yet in place.
