Information about Auckland Council charges and services, from rates to new rubbish bins, will be provided at a special information event this Wednesday, April 30.
The Auckland Council Information Evening is being organised and hosted by Warkworth Library and will run from 7pm to 8pm at the old Masonic Hall, next door to the library.
Senior library and council services assistant for community engagement Katie Mitchell says the event is aimed primarily at local Pasifika communities, though anyone at all who would like to know more about how council works is welcome.
Topics covered will include rates and rates rebates – what they are, why we pay them and how to fill in forms – plus local elections and how they work, and the upcoming new rubbish bins rollout.
Mitchell says there are up to 1000 Pasifika people living in the Warkworth, Wellsford, Snells Beach and Matakana area at any one time and, while some may be seasonal workers, the majority live here permanently.
Warkworth Library has also started a weekly community drop-in session at the Masonic Hall for friendship and refreshments.
Tea & Toast takes place every Friday morning between 10am and noon and is “by the community, in the community, for the community”, according to Mitchell.
“It’s a weekly drop-in session in a friendly, safe space to connect or to simply just ‘be’,” she says.
