The Mahurangi Premier 1 rugby team showed true class during a home game on May 24, convincingly beating Helensville 50-5.
The win was particularly sweet for captain Ben Dallow, playing his 40th game for Mahurangi. Dallow hoped his leadership was reflected through his actions on and off the pitch.
“My game is definitely slowing down in my twilight years, but I try and pass on whatever I can to the younger guys,” he said.
His most memorable moment over his 40 games was leading the team to the championship semi-finals last year. “Coming from behind to beat Massey in the quarter finals was the stand-out,” he said.
The club’s director of rugby, Haden Kose, said Ben had been a highly valuable member of the Prem 1 team since he joined Mahu in 2021.
“His leadership abilities greatly impact both on-field and off-field activities, and we are fortunate to have a player of his character at Mahu,” Kose said.
“His achievement of reaching his 40-game blazer is hugely deserved, and we look forward to him continuing to build upon this total next season.”
