Gas emergency in Warkworth

Parts of Neville Street in Warkworth have been evacuated after a contractor, working on the Oaks on Neville retirement development, hit a gas main.

The street is closed between Alnwick and Queen Streets. Emergency services are attending.

Because the wind is travelling eastwards, Police are considering further evacuations further east, including New World supermarket, but do not consider it a major public health threat.

The leak was caused when a digger working on the Oaks on Neville development struck the gas supply.
