Going up – RSA opens new lift in style

After more than a year of planning, meetings, fundraising and not to mention a few delays, the new passenger lift at the Warkworth RSA was officially opened on September 10.

First to try out the ride up from the carpark and into the foyer was RSA patron Neal Satherley, president Bob Harrison, secretary and manager Chrissy Keith and the club’s oldest member, 105-year-old Sybil Gardiner, who cut the ceremonial ribbon.

After a blessing by Warkworth Anglican vicar Rev’d Peter Jenkins and a prayer for the late Queen, Harrison said the 15-month process had at times been a nightmare for the committee, not least last year’s four-month lockdown, but the end result was worth the wait and “an awesome job”.

He thanked the many local businesses and individuals who had supported the project, and club members for their patience and understanding while the lift was being constructed and installed.
