Northern checkpoint locations

Police have confirmed that should Northland move to Alert Level 3 as expected tomorrow night (11.59pm Thursday), checkpoints will be placed south of Mangawhai and Kaiwaka.

Checkpoints will be set up at the Mangawhai Road turn off on State Highway One, on Mangawhai Road north of Coal Hill Road, on Black Swamp Road west of Rako Road, at the intersection of Mangawhai Road and Cames Road and at the intersection of Mangawhai Road and Ryan Road.

Police say anyone travelling across the regional boundary can expect to be stopped and asked for proof of essential travel.

Businesses can apply for an exemption to cross the boundary at www.business.govt.nz/covid-19/business-travel-across-alert-level-boundaries.

Residents can also cross the boundary under certain circumstances including for shared child arrangement or medical appointments but will need to provide proof of reason.

The full list of permitted reasons to travel across the boundary is available at https://covid19.govt.nz/travel/travelling-across-alert-level-boundaries

Police Commissioner Andrew Coster says there may be delays at checkpoints during peak travel times and the community needs to be prepared to be patient.

A decision on whether or not Northland will move to Level 3 will be announced tomorrow.
