Warkworth Pony Club has enjoyed one of its strongest seasons in recent memory, with local riders delivering outstanding performances across eventing and show jumping while demonstrating the strength of a grassroots club built on community, opportunity and a passion for developing young people.
Behind the season’s impressive results is something even more significant. From first lessons to regional, North Island and national competition, Warkworth Pony Club is creating a genuine development pathway for local young riders. Through exceptional coaching, dedicated volunteers, committed families and a supportive club culture, the club is nurturing talent from grassroots participation through to high levels of competition.
Across the past season, Warkworth riders have achieved outstanding success at competitions throughout the region, with many qualifying for regional, North Island and national events.
Among the season’s highlights was an exceptional performance at the Wainoni Interclub One Day Event, where Warkworth teams claimed 1st and 5th Overall, 1st and 2nd overall in Dressage, along with the coveted Sportsmanship Trophy.
The club also celebrated victory at the Timberlands Teams Event, placing 1st in the teams event where many of the North Island’s strongest riders compete each year.
Success continued at the Interclub Show Jumping competition at Coatesville Pony Club, where Warkworth’s four teams finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th from a field of fourteen teams.
Warkworth Pony Club rider Caitlyn Wilkin was also recognised nationally with a New Zealand Pony Clubs Association Category A Achiever Award.
The club is built on the dedication of volunteers, coaches and families who generously give their time to create opportunities for young people. Behind every competition are parents volunteering countless hours, children fundraising towards competition costs and a community working together to support the next generation of riders.
The club’s achievements would not have been possible without the generosity of local businesses, grant providers and volunteers who continue to invest in youth sport. Warkworth Pony Club extends its sincere thanks to The Salty Dog Inn, Snells Beach, for its ongoing support through the Community Trust, Matakana Butchery for its generous support of the club’s fundraising initiatives, and the many local businesses, organisations and individuals whose contributions continue to make these opportunities possible.
