Rent hike for Rodney Rams

Rodney Rams Rugby League and Sports Club faces a substantial rent increase as part of its 10-year lease renewal at Whangateau Domain.

Auckland Council staff recommended increasing the club’s annual rent from $1 to $1300 plus GST, bringing it into line with council’s revised community occupancy charges.

The board accepted the recommendation at its meeting on October 21, which secures the club’s tenure until December 2035.

Established in 1992, the club has 203 members and provides facilities for rugby league, touch, masters’ teams and pool players.

It rebuilt its premises after a devastating fire in 2014 and continues to maintain its own buildings and facilities.

A council report said the club was financially sound and its facilities were well maintained.

The Rams were also looking to expand their activities, with plans for an under-10 rugby league team, annual fishing event and pickleball.
