A recent community drop-in session in Warkworth, hosted by Watercare, raised concerns about signage and traffic management during the planned closure of Kapanui Street, from September to March.
Warkworth Community Shop manager John McEwing said the shop’s car park would be inaccessible during its busiest time of the year.
“It will have a huge impact on us because donations are our lifeline and the driveway off Kapanui Street is the way people enter,” McEwing said.
Watercare says it is working closely with Auckland Transport, and will provide timely updates on the installation of signage and any changes to the traffic management plan.
“People who want to donate will have to access the shop via Wharf Street,” McEwing says. “The problem is that access there is very narrow, and it is not clear how two cars will be able to pass, as at the moment it is a one-way access. That is why good signage will be essential.”
McEwing says a suggestion that a drop-off zone be set-up on Queen Street could be a good alternative for customers.
