A resident of Puriri Place in Sandspit was taken aback to discover that the new road off Woodcocks Road, that runs between Mitre 10 and Kowhai Falls, has also been named Puriri Place.
Andrew Sanderson is concerned about the potential confusion of having two streets with identical names in greater Warkworth.
“Allowing the new road name to become official will likely lead to significant confusion, with friends and family potentially being directed to the wrong location, and mail and courier deliveries being misrouted,” he says.
Andrew is urging his neighbours in the “real” Puriri Place, as well as the Sandspit Residents and Ratepayers Association, to express their concerns to Auckland Transport (AT).
However, road naming is a Local Board decision, but in this case, the road is privately owned by the Kowhai Falls developer and naming it was their decision.
Spokesperson Bevan Morrison says they are open to changing the name to avoid confusion.
“When we looked at names for these roads we only checked if there were existing names in Warkworth, not in the wider region, which perhaps we should have,” he said
