Sandspit Road wall repairs kick off

Motorists can expect delays on Sandspit Road in Warkworth as retaining wall replacement work closes one lane until mid-December.

The project at 36 Sandspit Road began on October 27, with crews working between 7am and 7pm.

The project will include a new retaining wall built with H-shaped steel piles, improved drainage and road resurfacing.

The work aims to stabilise the slope, support the road and improve drainage to protect both the road and retaining wall, reducing the risk of further damage and emergency repairs while keeping the route safe and reliable for drivers and bus services.

Auckland Transport planned the project, which Auckland Council will manage and deliver.

Auckland Transport said one lane would be closed to allow the retaining wall to be replaced safely, and motorists should allow extra travel time. It said efforts would be made to minimise disruption, with any significant changes to the schedule communicated if weather or unexpected delays affected the work.

The work is expected to be completed by mid-December 2026.
